　　Doc Rivers, the legendary coach who led the Boston Celtics to an NBA championship, has officially brought his 28-year coaching career to a close. The 64-year-old announced he is joining NBC as a basketball commentator, making it clear he is "100 percent retired" and will not return to the sidelines.

　　"I can honestly say I'm really done," Rivers told The Associated Press. "It's been a long journey, and this year I finally made it into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. I'm very grateful to have coached and played for so many years. For the first time, I can fully devote myself to television work, and I'm really looking forward to it."

　　Rivers had actually received an offer from NBC to serve as an NBA analyst after his playing career ended in 1996, but he declined at the time because he couldn't commit to never returning to coaching. Three decades later, now that he has definitively left the coaching bench, he has finally joined NBC to begin a new chapter in his career.

　　The iconic coach began his head coaching career with the Orlando Magic in 1999 and later led the Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Milwaukee Bucks. His greatest achievement came in 2008 when he guided the Celtics to an NBA championship, and he returned to the NBA Finals in 2010. Over his career, he coached 2,059 games and earned 1,194 wins, ranking sixth all-time in NBA history in victories.

　　Rivers is no stranger to broadcasting. He previously worked for Turner Sports, ESPN/ABC, and served as an Olympic analyst for NBC. He briefly returned to the broadcast booth in 2023 before leaving to take over the Bucks in 2024.

　　Now returning to television, Rivers looks forward to bringing nearly 40 years of NBA experience to the screen. "I've played, coached, been in management, and done TV — I've basically done everything you can do in the basketball world. That gives me a unique perspective, and I hope to share it with the audience."
